SECRETARY-GENERAL’S MESSAGE

Distinguished Participant,

I am honoured to welcome you to the Ghana International Model United Nations 2027 and Careers Festival.

We meet at a moment when the world cannot afford spectators. Crises don’t wait for permission, and neither should courage. This theme, “Leadership Matters, Citizens Must Act,” isn’t just a slogan but, a summons.

Leadership matters. Not the kind that waits for a title, but the kind that shows up before it’s asked to, in classrooms, in communities, in the quiet decisions no one applauds. Citizens must act, because democracy, diplomacy, and development aren’t spectator sports. They’re built by hands that refuse to stay idle.

GIMUN has never been about mock debates for their own sake. It’s a rehearsal for the real thing, for the policies you’ll write, the crises you’ll resolve, and the careers you’ll build in service of something larger than yourselves.

So come ready to argue, to negotiate, to fail and rebuild your position, to network with intention. Come ready to be uncomfortable, because growth rarely feels comfortable.

The floor is yours. The world is watching. Act like it.
