In December 2009, the founder, Philip Gyamfi an ambitious young man poised to contributing to global discussions, and finding solutions to global issues mobilized some young people to organize the first university-level Model United Nations conference in Ghana after his unsuccessful attempt to participate in the Global Model United Nations conference in August 2009 in Geneva, Switzerland and was organized by the United Nations Department of Public Information (UNDPI). He believed, the skills he had learnt as part of the preparations towards the conference are very vital skills young people everywhere need to understand the United Nations system, and most importantly contribute towards the achievements of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and now the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Hence, a Model United Nations group was formed to bring Model United Nations closer to the Ghanaian youth and by extension, African youth. His passion and dedication with the support of his colleague students from the various Universities in Ghana saw the successful of the first Ghana International Model United Nations (GIMUN) conference organized on 19th-20th March, 2010 in Accra where eighty students played roles as diplomats of the member states of the United Nations. In March 2015, GIMUN was formally incorporated as a Non-Governmental Organization in Ghana. Since its inception in 2010, over eight thousand two hundred and fifty young people from fifteen countries mostly in Africa have participated in the GIMUN annual conferences and have acquired research, writing, public speaking lobbying and agenda setting and conflict resolution skills. They are easily able to analyze global issues and share their opinions on how best global challenges can be addressed. Seven other Model United Nations groups have also emerged from GIMUN and are doing well under the patronage and guidance of the founder of GIMUN, Philip. GIMUN participants have played significant roles in several Model UN groups in Europe and America. Today, GIMUN can boast of influential young people in academics, industry, politics, business, health-care and other development areas. To afford our past participants the opportunity to contribute to overarching wellbeing of humanity especially now that they are part of policy making and implementation, GIMUN´s activities have been expanded to deal with issues of sustainability. Today, GIMUN is more than a Model United Nations group. It is now a family of more ambitious people ready to improve the quality of lives of people everywhere and live a mark for generations. As young as we were some fifteen years ago, we shall not remain the same. Others may become young and grow as we are. Therefore, there are things we need to preserve for the generations after us. The environment, the friendship and values we cherish so much must be preserved and passed on to others. This is the philosophy that guides us today to leave a legacy for unborn generations. In February 2024, the Founder and the Board of Directors through consensus embarked on a robust restructuring by changing the name of GIMUN to Prep and Pave LBG (herein referred to as Prep and Pave) and also adopted new objectives. The name, Prep and Pave is inspired by the new focus to prepare people who are futuristic and are ready to pave a way for generations to enjoy quality life whiles alive. We want to encourage people of today to maximize the opportunities we have to our advantage without blocking these same opportunities of those after us. Prep and Pave focus´ on sustainability puts us in a position to venture into many areas once they improve the lives of the people and leave a footprint for the future. As reflected in our vision and mission, we will work closely with policy makers and implementers to ensure that the global effort towards sustainability are upheld.
